22nd to 28th of January 2024

About

    About

This is a cooperative, relaxed family camp focused around turtles and the environment.  Everyone is welcome; homeschoolers, distance edders and even kids who go to school. While the dates are 22nd to 28th of January, feel free to arrive and depart whenever suits you.

Accommodation: My family is staying at the Bargara Beach Caravan Park where I base most of the activities but you are welcome to stay anywhere.  If you want a cabin book ASAP. There are usually powered spaces available but I would book for these a month or so out. There are always plenty of unpowered camp sites and these do not require bookings. Note in my opinion the accommodation is expensive - $50 a night for an unpowered site - admittedly I am pretty tight with money.

Costs:

  • There are no fees for the camp itself - we all pitch in and contribute to the activities.

  • You pay your accommodation directly to your host - all bookings, deposits and payments are  your own.

  • There is a pre-payment for the Turtle Encounter if you want to be a part of the group but you are welcome to make your own the arrangements for Lady Musgrave Island Experience

  • There will be other pay-as-you-go expenses for the small activities such Coral growers ($15pp) and for art materials (eg $2pp)

Liabilities: No one is being paid so all liability is your own.

Booking Forms: my apologies but adding to the bookings form gets messy so it was easier to separate them.

Coral Growers BOOK for CORAL GROWERS

This is a coral "farm" where they grow the best and brightest corals for aquariums. Corals are in elevated troughs under lights and look fabulous. The guide is very informative. Touching is allowed.  Please note;
...wash your hands and forearms thoroughly before attending

...wear fully enclosed shoes

...keep kids close as there are many hazards

Turtle Encounters: Group Trip [BOOKED OUT]- Tuesday the 23rd - limited tickets. You are welcome to book yourself as well if my date does not suit you.   https://www.bundabergregion.org/turtles/mon-repos-turtle-encounter

See a turtle lay her eggs or a heap of babies dig out of their hole and run down the beach - OR BOTH! While you are waiting for the turtles the Mon Repos Turtle Centre is great with a good cafe and plenty of educational activities while you wait for the turtles to arrive. There is no great price advantage in a group booking but we do get scheduled first to go down the beach which is great considering you could be there until 2am.

  • Adults - $29.30

  • Kids, Students & Concessions - $15.10

  • Family - $70.65  (2 adults 2 kids )

Lady Musgrave Island Day Trip:  I believe this is a landmark life experience and worth the money if you have not done it previously. In the past the education price was great but now the family price is better and I recommend booking and paying yourself - this also means you get all the information directly.  Usually I nominate a day and people try to jump onto that day if they can manage it so we can have fun with our friends. If you want to use the family discount and don't have the perfect nuclear family of two adults and two kids then in I can match you with other families to even out the numbers. https://ladymusgraveexperience.com.au/bookings/

This is a full day starting at 7am for at the Bundaberg Port Marina at Burnett Heads and arriving home at 5pm.  The trip on the boat takes a little over 2 hours & the same for the return trip. Included are...

  • Morning & afternoon  tea & buffet lunch. Reef presentation & documentaries on the boat.

  • Snorkelling (mask, snorkel, fins provided),

  • Glass bottom boat tour of the reef,

  • Guided island walk of Lady Musgrave Island.

  • Optional scuba diving available at an additional cost.

  • Optional "Introduction to Scuba" course at an additional cost.

Costs

Family (2 adults + 2 kids) $750

Adult $260
